Canon: Young Protectors
Canon Point: :Engaging the Enemy" arc, Chapter 4, After the Young Protectors break a power-nullifying device and causes an explosion that concusses Duncan

Age: 58
Appearance: IMG HERE

History: The world of the Young Protectors series is similar to modern day earth. Same pop culture, same technologies for the most part, same sociological problems.

Some of the biggest differences are as follows:

Magic is Bad — Anyone can use it with training in the correct rituals and lots of mental practice. The problem is the more you use it, the more quickly you will go insane. No practicing magic-user remains mentally competent for long, and so it is a very stigmatized practice. The only exception to this rule is Spooky Jones, paranormal detective extraordinaire, and The Platinum Priestess, an "immortal" villain that's been around since the beginning of humanity.

Aliens Exists — Earth was contacted by extra-terrestrials (at some point?? I don't think we have the date yet). Most of their technology and knowledge, however, is coveted by the US government for military purposes. Such technologies are unknown to the common civilian.

Mutants Exist, Too — Mutations began to appear in humans during the 60s and 70s, creating extraordinary powers like pyrokinesis, telepathy, super strength, etc. In the beginning, these humans were discriminated against. It spawned some of the first super villains, which then required super heroes to stop them.

The government eventually created ExTeams. These teams were sanctioned to thwart super humans and other supernatural/paranormal issues. This also includes a junior division for teenagers, too. They are limited to search and rescue missions, as well as natural disaster relief.

Oh, and Hell is Coming — Unbeknownst to most, the barrier between earth and Hell is deteriorating and soon there will be nothing and no one that can keep the Kings of Hell from destroying humanity. The Platinum Priestess and Spooky Jones are the only two who understand the seriousness of the earth's predicament. Both have very different ideas about how to save earth from this apocalypse.

Duncan Wells is one of these first, if not the first, super villains that came from the discrimination that surrounded the first generation of mutants. From an early age he is bullied in school with no strength to fight back. That is, until one day his powers manifest while he is being harassed by other students. What starts as self-defense turns into a violent spree of destruction that leaves twenty students in critical care.

His parents are horrified by what he is and what he has done, so they disown him and toss him out of their home. With nowhere safe to run, he stows away on a ship to the United States, where he becomes part of the New York criminal underworld.

For years he works as a lackey for mafia bosses until he strikes out on his own as the Annihilator. As an indestructible super human, he quickly gains worldwide notoriety for stealing priceless art, like David by Michelangelo (yup, he stole it and put it in one of his houses). And when the national guard or foreign armies try to apprehend him, well, he simply crushes their tanks like tin foil and laughs at the bullets ricocheting off his body. It's because of him and others that followed in his footsteps that super heroes are created by the United States' government to deal with them.

At the height of his career as a super villain, Duncan has billions in stolen money, assets, and priceless artifacts. He doesn't work with other villains very often, not his style, but one such villain comes to him with a proposition. The Platinum Priestess, one of only two people who haven't gone mad from using magic, reveals to Duncan that the veil separating earth and Hell is thinning and must be rebuilt before humanity is enslaved by the kings of Hell that dwell there.

In order to save the world, they must first destroy it—just for a couple decades, that's all! They will summon Laampros, one of the Kings of Hell, and give him dominion over earth. With the amount of magic flowing out from Hell, the Platinum Priestess is confident she can rebuild the protective veil and banish Laampros and his armies back to Hell. Simple right?

But how to summon this demon? It isn't easy! There's only a few ways the veil can be punctured in the first place. What they can do is use sex magic and the power of his earthly offspring to summon him, at least that's what the Platinum Priestess says. For an indeterminate amount of time, they stalk a young man named Kyle Conlen, aka Red Hot, the main character of the series and the unknowing bastard son of Laampros.

It becomes Duncan's duty to seduce the young man until he completely and fully trusts Duncan emotionally and sexually. Then on his eighteenth birthday, a day that holds a lot of astrological power for each individual, Duncan manipulates Kyle into having sex with him. The moment Kyle orgasms, Duncan uses the power flowing through him to bind him and summon his father from Hell.

Duncan then entices the demon into granting him eternal youth in exchange for humanity on a silver platter. He accepts the deal, leaving Duncan to explain how it was "necessary" to betray Kyle so wrongfully in order to protect the world. Then he, too, leaves to prepare for Laampros' arrival on earth with the Platinum Priestess. They prepare a summoning circle in a distant part of the United States, where a dozen innocent people will be sacrificed for it.

Kyle and his team of junior heroes try to thwart him, but are captured in the process. Kyle appeals to his better sense that Duncan is being used by the Platinum Priestess, but he won't hear of it. Then in a stroke of luck, they are freed and begin their rampage again. One of Kyle's teammates breaks a power-nullifying machine that explodes, knocking Duncan out and releasing the young team's power restraints.

Personality:
  • Charming — As he constructed his new identity as The Annihilator, he tells Kyle that he took inspiration from superhero comics, like Superman and Batman. Duncan learned to be smooth-talking, and with all the money he accrued, could afford to eat at the finest restaurants, dress in the best designer suits, and travel all over the world in order to become more cultured.

This kind of lifestyle and larger-than-life attitude pulls many into his sphere of gravity, people like Kyle Conlen. Duncan seduces Kyle with his silver tongue and thoughtful discussions about their equally traumatic childhoods. He wines and dines the young man until he has him under his spell.

  • Manipulative — As a professional thief, Duncan uses his charm and resources as tools to trick people into giving him what he wants. For his part in the Platinum Priestess' plan to save the world, Duncan is required to seduce Kyle and make sure he completely trusts him when they have sex. It's only when the young man's defenses are completely lowered that the magic ritual to summon his demonic father will work.

In order to do so, Duncan purposefully appeals to Kyle's empathy and exploits his naivete. By sharing his childhood trauma of discovering his powers, he knows the young man can relate. During one of their dates, Duncan leaks his whereabouts to two unscrupulous bounty hunters so that they can try and assassinate him. This little ploy allows Duncan to save Kyle's life, but also shows the young hero that there are people who fight less fairly than he does. It makes Duncan look like a victim in Kyle's eyes, which is exactly what Duncan wants.

  • Menacing — With superhuman strength, invulnerability, and incredible endurance, Duncan quickly weaponizes it for his own selfish whims and to terrorize those weaker than him.

He spends a big portion of his life as mafia muscle, squeezing debtors, carrying out hits, stealing, extorting, etc. What's more is he enjoys it. No longer the helpless whipping boy, he exerts his strength over civilians, criminals, governments, anything and anyone who gets in his way. Whole armies and their tanks have been destroyed by Duncan, who acts like its all a game to him.

Another notorious event was when Duncan straight up stole the statue of David from Florence, Italy, in front of security guards and police. They could do nothing to stop him and he knew it.

  • Insecure — While Duncan is usually shown as jovial and able to roll with the punches, there is an anger and an insecurity within him from his childhood that has never quite burned out. It flares up when his intelligence, common sense, or sentimentality is questioned.

Even his partner in crime, the Platinum Priestess, gets under his skin when she infers that he is not strong enough to go through with killing the young heroes they have captured. She has insulted his resolve as a notorious super villain and mocks his sentimentality when he hesitates to hurt the junior heroes, and Duncan takes it very personally. He is ready to start a fight with her in the midst of their very important and sensitive ritual, all over slighted pride.

During a battle between him and the junior heroes, he loses his thick skin when Kyle calls him blind to what the Platinum Priestess was really up to, that he was her "lap dog." He goes off on a stereotypical villainous monologue to prove that he is in the right, that the ends justify the means, and that anyone who can't see that is naive. Duncan states that the Platinum Priestess chose him as a partner is because he is the one villain willing to make the hard choices; Kyle disagrees. He tells Duncan that it's because he is weak and trying to prove to himself and everyone else in the world that he is no longer that scared little boy from London. Kyle hits the nail on the head, and Duncan storms off in a fit of rage, doubling down on his efforts to prove the young heroes wrong.

  • Powers and Abilities:
  • Super Strength and Speed — Canonically, Duncan can lift up to 6 tons and can run 640 kmph, all of which is a lot. Something like being able to pick up large vehicles and run maybe 3x faster than a normal human works.

  • Invulnerability — Duncan's skin is impenetrable, or at least by most man-made weapons and most superhuman powers. This is a lot again, so if I need to nerd this can do! If it's possible, I'd like him to still be invulnerable to norman human damage, regular man-made weapons, but super humans or magic weapons can harm him.

  • Accelerated Healing — He heals superficial injuries almost instantaneous. Serious or mortal injuries take several hours to a day.

  • Inventory:
  • Supervillain uniform

  • 6 shuriken

  • Samples: ONE, TWO
